Keep one current list
- Drug name, dose, time of day, and why it’s taken
- Vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter items
- Allergies and past bad reactions
- Carry a copy to every appointment and hospital visit
Daily routine
- Use a weekly pill organizer if it helps
- Same times each day when possible
- Don’t skip or double-dose without asking a professional
- Store as directed (some need the fridge; most need a cool, dry place)
- Keep medicines away from children and confused visitors
Questions for the pharmacist
- What is this for, and how long will I take it?
- What side effects should I watch for?
- Does it interact with my other medicines or food?
- What if I miss a dose?
- Is a lower-cost generic available?
Caregivers
- Know who is responsible for refills
- Watch for new dizziness, confusion, or rashes — report to the doctor
- Never share prescription medicine between people
- Dispose of old meds at pharmacy take-back programs when possible
