Food and cash help

Ask about SNAP and TANF even if income is modest. Benefits often go back to the application date. Dial 211 or your county job & family services.

School

Bring proof of address and any custody or caregiver affidavit the district accepts. Ask the school counselor about free lunch and transportation.

Legal standing

A written caregiver affidavit, custody, or guardianship may be needed for doctors and school. Legal aid can explain options in your state — this is not legal advice.
